Franz Servais was born in St Petersburg in 1846 and, like his father, turned out to be a gifted musician. He was a talented pianist and student of the renowned composer Franz Liszt. Later he became himself a creditable composer and conductor. Until 1886 he lived alternately abroad and in Villa Servais. He invited numerous prominent musicians and poets to the villa in Halle , such as Armand Gouzien , Judith Gautier, Catulle Mendes and Hans Richter.
